Can I use an aftermarket, round stem on my bike with a D-shaped steerer?

If your Cervelo comes equipped with a D-shaped steerer to allow for internal brake hose routing, it is designed to be compatible with standard, round 1-1/8" stems. However, to provide the best fit, we recommend using the D-Steerer / Stem Insert 801 (part number STRI-801).

Aftermarket stems are incompatible with our D-shaped steerers if the steerer clamp interface gap falls under 1.0mm when torqued to the stem manufacturer’s recommended torque value.

Please note that the steering system of the bicycle includes the stem, handlebar, shift cables, brake hoses, split ring, bearing cap, bearings, and spacers. While we have validated all of these parts assembled as a system on all Cervélo models as specified, we have not validated all possible aftermarket combinations that substitute any of these components.

As such, in cases where an aftermarket round stem is substituted for the original stem that was specified on the bike, we highly recommend that the original cable routing can be maintained and strongly suggest keeping as many of the other original components of the system intact. Standard round stems may not be compatible with internal cable / hose routing on D-shaped fork steerers. Please ensure cables / hoses are not pinched or could abrade against other components. In such substitution cases outlined above, the bicycle's warranty will not be voided by the stem substitution, unless it is determined that the warranty claim is caused by poor assembly or an incompatible replacement component.
